Mrs. Mary Kalina was born in Pope county, the daughter of John and Josephine Chermak, on Nov. 20, 1972, and was 85 years, 10 months and 14 days of age at the time of her death. She was baptized and confirmed in the Reno Catholic church of which she was a faithful member all her life. In spite of her illness and suffering, she was cheerful and endured her illness with patience. She found great enjoyment in growing flowers.
On Nov. 23, 1891, she was united in marriage to John Kalina. To this union eleven children were born. Mr. Kalina passed away a year ago. One daughter died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Tillie) Cihlar, died in 1948. Surviving are seven daughters and two sons: Mrs. Wencil (Mary) Chan of Lowry, Mrs. Anton (Josephine) Simek of Hudson twp., Mrs. Henry (Christine) Koudela of Lake Mary twp., Mrs. Wencil (Lillian) Zavadil of Alexandria, Anna of Lake Mary, Mrs. Hattie Yanda of Lake Mary, Frank Frank (Sylvia) Dynda of Lake Mary, Tom of Lake Mary and John of Reno. She also reared a granddaughter, Mrs. Donald Dvorsak. There are also 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Langer of Manitowac, Wis., and Mrs. Frances Prchal of Lake Mary twp., and one brother Charley Chermak of Reno twp.
Besides her husband and two daughters, she was preceded in death by three brothers, three granddaughters and three great granddaughters
