Final rites for J. E. Allen, Sr.

John Edward Allen, Sr., 81, prominent Winona banker, businessman and civic leader, died at the Winona Manor on Friday, December 12, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Allen was the son of the late William O. Allen and Jennie Newman Allen. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Winona, a former trustee of the Winona Public Schools, a director of the Bank of Winona, a former vice-mayor and alderman, and a former member of the Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle B. Allen; one son, James Edward "Buddy" Allen, Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Tommy Stanford, Marks; and by two granddaughters and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at Lee Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, December 14, at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Thomas M. Patete officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery with Lee Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were John Tabor, Jr., Newton Van Tabor, Wayne Gaines, James Tollison, Cecil Simpson, and Darrell May.

Honorary pallbearers were Directors of Bank of Winona and Pete Whitehead.
