Joseph Nealis, 33, 1202 Main St, Avoca, justice of the peace in Duryea's Fifth Ward and desk sergeant of the Duryea Police Department, died last night in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. He was a member of St Mary's Church, Avoca, and its Holy Name Society. Surviving are his mother, Mrs Mary Nealis; two brothers, Rev Donald Nealis CP of Springfield MA and John of California; three sisters, Nan and Mae Nealis and Mrs Elizabeth Neary; a niece, Constance Neary and a nephew, Joseph Neary. Funeral Saturday with mass in St Mary's Church. Interment, parish cemetery. ~Scranton (PA) Tribune, Thu 30 Jul 1942
