He was born in Shelby county (sic), Ill., on October 3, 1872. He came to Kansas with his parents, Josiah P. and Caroline Nutter in a covered wagon at the age of six months to their homestead in the Stony Point Community in Lincoln township. At an early age his family moved to Talmo where he attended public school and grew to manhood. He was always interested in politics and sports. He also kept well posted on world affairs through the years. He was a kind, devoted husband and father and a friend to all.
On March 8, 1893 he was united in marriage to Matilda Josephine Forney and there children consisted of six sons and six daughters: Mrs. Hector Courville, St. Louis, Mo., McKinley Nutter, Belleville, Fred Nutter, Belleville, Mrs. A. R. Surrier and Mrs. A. D. Sutton, Albany, Ore., Ory Nutter, Concordia; Orly Nutter, Alameda, Calif., Cecil Nutter, Wayne, Maurice Nutter, Ames, Mrs. Orville Johnson, Concordia, and Mrs. H. H. Lampert, Brooklyn, N.Y. One daughter, Mamie viola, passed away in infancy.
After the death of his first wife, he married Velma M. Barleen on April 18, 1936. To this union two sons were born. Mrs. Nutter and one son, DeWayne Nutter, Talmo, survives.
Mr. Nutter is survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George W. Nutter, Belgrade, Mont., and Talmo Nutter, Bremerton, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Orion Losee and Mrs. Fern Ramey, Denver Colo.; and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 29 with internment in Union cemetery.
