Sanford G. Erickson, age 81, a life long Stoughton, WI area resident, died on Sept. 7, 1999 at a Madison hospital. Sanford was born in the Utica area, WI, the oldest of 11 boys, on April 13, 1918, the son of the late George and Marlin (Larson) Erickson, Sr. He married the former Anna Bjugstad on Oct. 7, 1939 and she preceded him in death on April 9, 1988. He then married the former Doris Lee on July 3, 1990. Sam was a member of East Koshkonong Lutheran Church and a very proud member of Operating Engineers Local 139. Over the years, Sam worked for Rein, Schultz and Dahl, Sloughbaum, and Madison Stone. Sam was an avid story teller, enjoyed traveling, and loved having breakfast every morning with his breakfast buddies. He is survived by his wife, Doris; his children, Sonja (Dean) Horner of Stoughton, WI, Joe (Bev) Erickson of Stoughton, WI, Eric (Georgia) Erickson of Milton, WI, and Martha (Terry Gable) Erickson of Edgerton, WI; a step-daughter, Patricia Westness of Edgerton, WI; six brothers, Sidney (Ruth) of Brooklyn, WI, Truman of Stoughton, WI, George, Jr. (Marge) of Arizona, Roger (Sharon) of Neilsville, WI, Rueben of Stoughton, WI, and Neal (Sue) of Stoughton, WI; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Paul) Mennes-Coon, Edward (special friend, Rhonda) Mennes, Holly Mennes, Jay Erickson, Kevin Erickson, Renee, Tina, and Todd Erickson; five step grandchildren, Linda (Doug) Cutting, Richard Westness II, Patti White, Ronald (Char) Westness, and David (Jean) Westness; seven great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Anna, Sam was also preceded in death by a son, Gene on July 22, 1999; four brothers, Gilman, Phillip, Julian, and Earl; and by two grandchildren. Funeral services held at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church. The Reverend Richard Sansgaard and the Reverend A.S. Christensen will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
