Elmer and Abbie were married in Boise, ID on Oct. 22, 1886. They had four children: Graham Ethelmer, Floyd A., Olin T., and Rena E.

Elmer came to Idaho from Iowa as early as 1882. He was a teacher in Ada County from as early as 1884 to at least 1887, and lived near Caldwell in 1886. In the early 1890's he was partner in a Boise grocery store with his brother Charles. It appears he tried farming after selling out of the grocery store. He worked as a bookkeeper for Stein & Williams starting in June, 1902. By 1905 he was selling real estate in Boise. In 1915 he became a detective for the Boise police, before switching to motorcycle officer in Jan. 1916. Away from work he was involved in the Masons, and he liked to mine and hunt.

Elmer and Abbie were divorced after their children were grown. Elmer suffered a head injury in 1918 due to a runaway team of horses, and he wasn't the same afterward. His nephew Mervin helped look after him in his later years.
Birth year from family records and 1870 US Census; date of death from Idaho Death Index.
