Lois was born and raised in Tadmor, TX, and married Herman Hammond on December 13, 1941, and lived in Jewett since 1970, before moving to Crockett in recent years. She shared over fifty-seven years of marriage with her husband until being separated by his death on April 5, 1999. Mrs. Hammond worked as a hostess and operated several restaurants in the area including the Jewett Café and L & H Restaurant, as well as cafes in the local livestock auction barns. Her last job was as hostess for the Weathervane Café in Buffalo. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and cooking. Mrs. Hammond was a woman of great love and strength for her family. She never met a stranger and enjoyed every minute of life to the fullest, even after enduring the tragedy of losing her husband, three sons, one daughter-in-law, and an “adopted” son. Mrs. Hammond was the “glue” that held her family together. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jewett.

Funeral services for Lois G. Hammond will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 10:00a.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Bro. Baron Harris and Bro. Billy Bob Evans will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Sardis Cemetery.

RIP Auntie Lois, we miss you already.
