Jesse James Wells was a third generation Wells, the first of the Wells Family to come to Texas was John Wiley Wells, born between 1794 & 1796 in South Carolina. He was married to Sarah Dickens, who was also born in South Carolina in 1807. They came to Texas with 17 other families from Alabama. They arrived in Houston County in the 1850's and settled near what is now Ratcliff. They bought land and farmed in the area. They and other families established a Primitive Baptist Church at Antioch in 1859, The Antioch Cemetery is located on this site today.
John Wiley and Sarah Wells had 10 children, one son James Oliver Wells born 1832,and he married Perlina Sides. James Oliver and Perlina Wells had James Oliver, II September 16, 1862 and he married Mary O Sides.
James Oliver and Mary Wells had eight children, the third born was Jesse James Wells, born August 26, 1891 and died 12-31-1993, lived to be 102 years old. He married Pearl McCall.
Jess & Pearl raised there children in the Tadmor Community. James Horace b 7.1.1916, Hazel Maurice b 9.3.1918, Leroy b 3.16.1921, Lois Geraldine 9.12.1923 and Kenneth Charles b 10.4.1933.
Jess' great grandson still lives on the old homeplace.
