Eliza Jane Carpenter Harris born in Illinois into a Mormon family. 1852 the Carpenters crossed the plains in the Snow Company reaching Salt Lake City UT Oct. her parents divorced, her mother Phebe lived with her Carpenter & Pierce children in the Salt Lake City area, settling to Fillmore and then Deseret UT, along with her Pierce sons. Eliza Jane married Jacob Harris Aug 16, 1853. They moved around UT, as Jacob worked in the crops and harvests. 1877 the family moved to Lincoln Co. New Mexico, lived next door to John Chisum Ranch, they were run out by outlaws 1879, moved back to UT, returning March 1881. Abt. 1890 the Harris's moved to Conjoes Colorado, 1896 her son Joe shot himself, bad cattle deal, was accused of stealing cattle. Jacob & Eliza moved to Farmington New Mexico, lived there until 1910, they them moved to Tyler Washington with their son Wayne Harris. She is buried in Lance Hills Cemetery, no stone.
