Ida Lovine Bice and her twin sister, Nora Irene Bice, were born on 2 February 1889 in Granbury, Texas, to Lafayette Bice Jr and Lillian Angeline Ercanbrack. As children, they attended Carter's School House in Splendora, Texas. Ida married first William Charles "Charlie" Free on 16 July 1905, when she was sixteen years old; two of her sisters married his brothers. Charlie and Ida's children were Ora Pauline, Johnnie Amos, Mary Lillie Belle, Herman Greenberry, Nina Mae, Henry Thomas, and Alson Eugene Free. Alson was one of a set of triplets, but the other two, Irene and Levine, were stillborn. Ida was widowed when Charlie died in 1946. She married second William Henry Payton, January 1951, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Ida Bice Free Payton died, 26 November, 1970, aged 81, in Alvin, Texas, and was buried with her first husband at Wixon Cemetery in Wixon Valley, Texas.
