George J. Verwolf, 314 East Story, a chef at the 4-Bs Restaurant, died this morning at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

Born April 30, 1917 in Oral, S.D., Verwolf was the son of Thomas Verwolf and Dirkie (VanDerWerff) Verwolf. He has lived in the Gallatin area most of his life, coming here from South Dakota by covered wagon in 1922.

He operated the Shanty Café for several years and has been employed as a chef at several other Bozeman restaurants.

He also served as deputy sheriff of Gallatin County for a year.

Verwolf was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Among the survivors are his mother of Manhattan; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Dolly) Bucsis, Bozeman, and Mrs. Stan (Roberta) Faught, Hardin; a son, Kenneth Verwolf, who is with the U.S. Navy; three sisters, Mrs. Wilford Hibbs, Boulder; Mrs. Merle Matthews, Bozeman, and Mrs. Walter Hotzel, Manhattan; two brothers, Myrtle Verwolf, Hayward, Calif., and Peter Verwolf, Paramount, Calif.; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
