J. B. Gass, of this city, is now the engineer in charge of location and construction of the Fort Smith, Arkansas, sewers. He is a worthy young man and the LEDGER is happy to note his success.

J. B. Gass Dead. From the Ft. Smith News-Record.

The funeral of the late J. B. Gass, city engineer, took place yesterday at 10 o'clock from his late residence.

The body was placed in a magnificent casket which was fairly smothered in flowers, the gifts of many friends. The services were conducted by the rector of the Episcopal church at Van Buren and they were more than impressive.

The funeral took place under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which society the deceased was a highly prized member.

The mayor, board of public affairs and city officials attended the funeral in a body. The number that assembled at the house was an unusually large one, and the cortege would have been equally so had it not been for the heavy rain fall. As it was very many of the friends of the deceased followed the remains to the grave listening to the accompanying admonitions and exemplifications of the lesson taught by death.
