The year before the Civil War ended Albert married Ann Elizabeth "Eliza" Spencer. Their ceremony took place in Mexico, Audrain Co, MO on December 20, 1864. Eliza, daughter of Joseph Dike & Elizabeth (Bishop) Spencer, was born in Audrain Co, MO on August 15, 1843.

Albert supported the family by farming. Eliza gave birth to 10 children, but only 4 lived to adulthood. This included two sons, Jewel Elmo & Shelby Cecil; two daughters, Bertha Winifred who married Octave Selby Asbury & Helena who married Homer Huston Haggard.

ON JULY 14, 1870,
Albert & Eliza Gass, ages 29 & 25, lived on a farm adjacent to his father & siblings located in Salt River Township, Audrain Co, MO. Their children were Lillian & Johanna, both 6 years old. Albert farmed to support the family; his personal wealth was estimated to be $500. His father was fairly wealthy for that time owning land valued at $4700 & personal wealth estimated to be $ 4500.

ON JUNE 14, 1880,
Albert G. & Ann E., ages 37, were living in Salt River Township where he was farming. Their twin daughters, Lillian & Johanna, had died sometime before this time. Children listed in their household were Harwood E., age 6; Bertha, 8; Olive, 4; & Mary, 1. Margaret Richards, age 23, was a boarder.

Bertha married Octave Selby Asbury in Mexico, MO on November 28, 1895. Octave was the son of John Henry and Elizabeth Helen (Waters) Asbury.

ON JUNE 15/16, 1900,
Albert G. & Ann E., ages 58 & 57, were still living in Salt River Township where they owned a farm. They had been married 35 years; Ann had given birth to 10 children, but only 4 were living: Bertha who was married, Helena, age 19; Elmo J. (Jewel Elmo), 16; & Shelby C., 14.

On October 4, 1905, Jewel Elmo married Beulah May Davis in Mexico, MO. Beulah was the daughter of James Hord & Mary Catherine (Robinson) Davis.

Helena married Homer Huston Haggard in Mexico, MO on August 20, 1907. Homer was the son of William Sandford & Nancy "Nannie" Patience (Bradley) Haggard.

ON MAY 10/11, 1910,
Albert G. & Annie E., ages 68 & 66, were living on their farm on Columbia Road in Salt River Township. They had been married 45 years; Ann had given birth to 10 children, but only 4 were living. The only child still at home was Shelby C., age 23, who was single & was employed as a school teacher.

Albert died in their home at 2:20 p.m. on June 21, 1915, from cancer. He had lived 73 years, 6 months, & 8 days. His son, J. Elmo Gass of Mexico, MO, was the informant on his death certificate. He was buried the following day.

Their son, Shelby, married Miss Mary Fern Juelfs in Audrain Co, MO on September 27, 1916. Mary was the daughter of Christian and Lillie Virginia (Wolferd) Juelfs. Shelby took his bride home with him to live with his widowed mother.

ON JANUARY 2, 1920,
Ann, shown as A.C. Gass, age 76, owned a home on East Promenade in Mexico Ward 4, Audrain, Co, MO. Her son, S.C. (Shelby), age 34, & his wife, Mary F., age 24, & their daughter, May Fern, 2 years & 6 months, were living with her. Shelby was the foreman of a brick plant.

On December 2, 1924, Ann was treated for Broncho-Pneumonia by Dr. R.S. Williams of Mexico. Two days later she died at 8 a.m. in her home located at 709 East. She had lived 81 years, 3 months, & 19 days. Her son, S.C. Gass, was the informant on her death certificate. She was buried beside her beloved husband, Albert, the following day.
