Son of Archibald Armstrong and Elizabeth "Betsey" McCutcheon Armstrong;

Grandson of William Augustus Armstrong and Margaret "Peggy" Jameson and of Joseph R. McCutcheon and Nancy Youell McCutcheon;

Brother of Joseph Armstrong, Rachel Armstrong (Mrs. Russell Newman Wallace), Elizabeth "Lizzie" Armstrong, James Armstrong, Margaret Ann Armstrong (Mrs. William Kerr Wallace), Mary Elizabeth Armstrong (Mrs. John Paul Cook and later Mrs. James Lindsay), Archibald Thomas Armstrong (Wife, Martha Jane "Mattie" Firebaugh Armstrong) and Virginia E. Armstrong.

William Armstrong comes from the early pioneering families of Augusta County, Virginia, who came from Scotland and Ireland to settle the land. His Father passed away in 1853 and left William to manage the farm lands.

*William served in the Confederate Army in the Civil War.*

On August 19, 1867, William married Cynthia Alberta Hunter, from neighboring Albemarle County, Virginia.
Their three daughters... Alberta, Hannah Elizabeth and Iva Armstrong...were born in Little Calf Pastures, Augusta County, Virginia. Sadly, Hannah Elizabeth lived for just one year and passed away shortly before Iva was born.

In 1881, William moved with his wife, Cynthia, and two daughters across the country to Orange County, California, joining many other Armstrong, Wallace, McCutcheon and Firebaugh family members. They lived for some time in Long Beach, California.

William and Cynthia were able to see both of their daughters married and raising children. Daughter Alberta married Martin Reid Urton and gave William six Grandchildren; Daughter Iva married Charles Milan Miller, a School Teacher from Canada, and gave William and Cynthia two more Grandchildren.

William was also an Uncle and cousin many times over.

William Armstrong passed away at the home of his youngest daughter, Iva, on September 11th, 1904, at the age of 75.

He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles, next to his Wife, Cynthia; when I called the cemetery, a caring staff member told me where they were both buried, and I then placed a photo request. Unfortunately, there are no headstone markers; the findagrave volunteer photographer was kind enough to photograph the plot; even without the markers, we are pleased to know just where they are resting.....and we are grateful.

William is fondly remembered by all of the families and friends who knew and loved him and passed along the memories through the generations.
