John R. Cocek, Pioneer Resident, Taken by Reaper

John R. Cocek, age 75, passed away at his home here at 8 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Rev. E.J. Polcak officiating, burial in the Catholic cemetery.

Deceased was born in Austria. He came to America at the age of 18, settling in Belton and later moving to this vicinity where he had lived for the past 55 years.

Mr. Cocek was one of the organizers of the Catholic Workman's Branch No. 77 and was secretary and treasurer of the order for many years. He was also an officer of the local RVOS and a member of the K.J.T. Lodge No. 31

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Louis Haidusek, West, Mrs. M. Gerik, Waco, Mrs. Albert Schroeder, West, and Mrs. Joe J. Halamik, West; four sons, Eugene H. of West, Ben F. of Galveston, John W. of West, and Emmanuel of California; one brother, Ed Cocek, Penelope; one sister, Mrs. John Karlik of Penelope; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
