James Alvis Copeland passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 1983 in Corsicana, Texas of complications due to stomach cancer. He was born on December 21, 1901 in Covington, Texas to Joseph "Joe" Brown and Louetta Davis Copeland. He lived in Covington and Itasca, Texas for the majority of his life. Alvis, as he was known, had many talents. He was a farmer, rancher, carpenter, painter, store clerk and all around handyman. He married Alice Louise Barron and had two children; Betty Sue and James Ernest. Alice died in 1978 and son, James, died in a tragic accident in 1943. Alvis later remarried Tressie Mae Major Gard on July 3, 1980 and moved to Hillsboro, Texas. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Itasca plus the Downtown Men's Bible Class in Hillsboro. Services were conducted on December 7, 1983 at 2 P.M. at the Marshall Funeral Chapel in Hillsboro. Interment was in the Itasca Cemetery under the direction of the Marshall and Marshall Funeral Home.
