Lonnie M. Pennington, 73, of Rt. 4 Bluefield, died in a Bluefield hospital Wednesday afternoon following an illness of six months.
Born in Ashe County, N.C., he was a son of the late A. B. Pennington and Cellie Haggie Pennington. He had lived in Bluefield for the past 25 years. A retired coal miner, he was a member of the U.M.W.A., Local 5997 of Welch and a member and trustee of the Bluewell Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Louise Cheer Pennington of Bluefield; two daughter, Mrs. William (Lucille) Shupe of Madison, N.C. and Mrs. Jess (Hazel) Hurley of Rockridge, Fla.; two brothers, W.L. Pennington of Bluewell and T.V. Pennington of Powhatan; one half-brother, Gaither Pennington of Northfork; his stepmother, Mrs. A.B. Pennington of Northfork; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bluewell Baptist Church with rev. Millard Williams and Rev. T.F. Herndon officiating. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, today form 5 to 9 p.m. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.
