Gaither "Mitch" Pennington, 75, of Northfork, (Elkridge Section), was dead on arrival Wednesday at a Welch hospital.

Born at Konnarock, he was a retired miner from Pocahontas Fuel Co. and a member of the UMWA, of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Powhatan, and had lived in McDowell County for 60 years. He was preceded in death by seven brothers.

Survivors: wife, Mrs. Mary Giordano Pennington; son, Lt. Gaither F. Pennington II stationed with the U.S. Navy at Washington D.C.; daughter, Mrs. Tom (Tina) Lenhart of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Mary and Tommy Lenhart.

Mass of Christian burial will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. At Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Powhatan, with Father Ronald A. Getsinger officiating and burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.

Friends may call at Bennett-Fanning Funeral Home, Northfork, today from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. Rosary services will be conducted at 7 p.m.
