John C. Whipkey
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon for John C. Whipkey, aged 85, lifelong resident of Aleppo township, who died Wednesday morning , July 12, at 7:30 o'clock at his home near Aleppo following an illness of six weeks due to ailments incident to his advanced years. Short services will be held at his late home at 1 o'clock, followed by further rites in the Brethren church at Aleppo. The services will be in charge of Rev. Thomas Presnell, of Aleppo, assisted by Rev. V. K. Betts, of Cameron, W. Va. Interment will be in the Brethren cemetery at Aleppo.
A son of David and Hulda Cramer Whipkey, he was born June 11, 1848, in Aleppo township and all but five years of his life were spent on the farm where he died. He married Lydia Loar, whose death occurred April 25, 1918. He was the father of nine children, seven of whom survive as follows: Mrs. Anna Todd, of Loudenville, W. Va.; Elmer D. Whipkey, of Cameron, W. Va.; James F. Whipkey, of Aleppo; Mrs. F. E. Wilhelm, of Waynesburg; Mrs. George A. Phillips, of Waynesburg; Jesse L. Whipkey, of Aleppo, and Ray C. Whipkey, with whom he had made his home since the death of his wife. One son, Charles, died in infancy, and another son, Noel, died October (illegible). Mr. Whipkey was an active member of the Brethren church at Aleppo.
