JAMES NICHOLS

James Nichols, 71, retired Portsmouth grocer, died at 2:30 a.m. today at the home of a stepson, Harry Walker, 1339 Third St., West Portsmouth.

He had operated Nichols Grocery at 1822 Jackson St. for 25 years and Nichols Grocery at 917 Front St. for 10 years. He retired in 1951.

Surviving are his stepson, with whom he had been residing the last year; three step-grandchildren; four brothers, David E. Nichols of West Portsmouth, William F. Nichols, Vermont Ave., Robert Nichols, 11th St., and Orville Nichols, 812 Broadway St.; and three sisters, Mrs. John Abdon, 1330 High St., Mrs. Wilson Fry, 306 Ohio Ave., New Boston, and Mrs. Albert Boggs of South Shore. His wife, Minnie, died in March 1962.

Funeral services are to be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth. Interment is to be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Saturday.
