Prince, Duke. Philippe de France, son of King Louis XV of France and his wife Queen Marie Leszczynska, was born at the Palace of Versailles. He was their second son and fifth child. He was given the title of Duke of Anjou at birth. Philippe was raised at Versailles with his five siblings. His sister Louise died in February of 1733. Philippe had always been somewhat of a sickly child. However, his female caretakers apparently decided to mix large quantities of earth from a grave of Saint Medard into his food. The child died in April of 1733 at the Palace of Versailles, two months after his sister. He was interred at the Royal Basilica of Saint Denis in Paris.
