Mrs. George {Judith} Oakley
Mrs. George Oakley passed away at her home in Chilton town on Saturday morning about 1:00 o'clock, death being due to dropsy and heart disease. She had been suffering from ill health for the past Few years and last March her condition took a serious turn, gradually Becoming worse until death. Saturday, was a welcome relief to her Suffering.
Mrs. George Oakley, nee Judith Merrill, daughter of the late Jeremiah And Angeline Merrill, was born April 15, 1867 on the farm now owned by Peter Short in Chilton town. Her father was a veteran of the civil war, serving with Co. B, fifth Wisconsin Infantry, and one of the pioneers of Chilton town. Mrs. Oakley spent her girlhood on Her parent's farm being united in marriage to George Oakley on April 9th, 1887. She has been a resident of Chilton town practically her whole life, residing on the present homestead for many years. She was the mother of eleven children, all of whom with her husband survive her. They are: Mrs. Joseph Anders of Oshkosh, Mrs. Edmund Schneider, Mrs. Burton Hoffman, Stockbridge; Mrs. Arthur Phillips, Chilton Town, Mrs. BenjaminThorp, Fond du Lac; Ray of Chilton town, Ernest of Oshkosh; Claude of Oakfield; William, Chester and Donald At home.


She also leaves fourteen grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ada Luffman of Wolcott, N. Y., who was with her during her illness.


Mrs. Oakley was well and favorably known throughout this section, Possessing many sterling qualities that endeared her to all who knew Her. She was a devoted wife and mother and a true helpmate to her Husband, always doing her share in the promotion of the farm and Bringing up of her children. She was a member of St. Boniface Episcopal church and took an active part in the affairs of that congregation. Her death, though a relief to her, caused deep sorrow to her husband And children, who will miss her presence in the family circle.


The funeral was held on Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock from St. Boniface Episcopal church, Rev. Vernon Lane of Fond du Lac officiating, With interment in Hillside cemetery. It was largely attended by relatives And friends, among those from out of town being Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Anders and family, Mrs. Harriet Merrill, Oshkosh; Mr. And Mrs. Benjamin Thorp of Fond du Lac and Harry Merrill of Sheboygan.
