Born in the Town of Charlestown on August 14, 1891, he was a son of the late George and Mary Merrill Oakley.
He married the former Rosella Hein. She died in 1925.
On April 18, 1928, he married Mrs. Norman Lorenz Turner. She died in February, 1967.
Mr. Oakley farmed in the Town of Rantoul for many years, and then was employed at the Aluminum Specialty Co., Chilton for 12 years. He retired in 1965.
Survivors are a son William Jr. of Plymouth; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Winkel of Two Rivers; two stepdaughters, Mrs. William Schneider of Chilton and Mrs. Charles Van Den Bloom of Stockbridge; 28 grandchildren; three brothers, Claude of Fond du Lac, Chester of Mount Calvary and Donald of Chilton; four sisters, Mrs. Casper Lefeber of Kiel, Mrs. Joseph Anders of Oshkosh, Mrs. Berton Hoffman of Stockbridge, and Mrs. Edward Karls of Dotyville.
One son, one stepson, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Chilton, and at St. Boniface Episcopal Church, Chilton, with the Rev. Charles Bartholomew, pastor, celebrant of the funeral mass. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery.
