Esther P. (Koch) Klingler, 70, of Chelsea and formerly of Battle Creek, died Thursday, Jan. 26, in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor. She had been ill two years.

Born in Spearville, Kan., she lived in Battle Creek from 1965-78, when she moved to Chelsea. She received a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1949 from St. Louis University, and a master's degree from Western Michigan University. She served with the Marine Corps during World War II. In July 1987, she retired as a registered nurse from the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Ann Arbor. In Battle Creek, she was a former school board member of St. Philip Catholic Central High School and was active in other church and civic organizations. She enjoyed her family, reading and traveling

Surviving are her husband, Ralph Klingler, sons, Robert, Roger and Regis Klingler, daughters, Mary Ruth and Rita Klingler, six grandchildren; a brother, Alfred Koch; and sisters, Elizabeth Bin ning, Mary Joan Stohr, Catherine Condit and Anna Rose Davis.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chelsea and 3 p.m. Monday at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may go to Michigan Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea.
