Shalah Burns

Mrs. Shalah Elizabeth Burns, 81, wife of James Burns of Waverly, died in a local hospital Friday, December 20th.

Born in Sangamon County, January 23, 1887, she was the daughter of Abraham & Nancy Hunt. She was married in 1906 to Carl Otto Morris who died in 1922. From this marriage she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Opal Beatty of Springfield; a son, Carl O. Morris of Divernon; a son, Harold Roscoe Morris preceded her in death in 1922 at the age of six.

Also surviving is her husband and Mrs. Ella Edwards of Waverly; 3 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Burns was a member of the Rohrer Chapel Methodist Church, near which she was born, and the Pythian Sisters. She operated a cream station in Waverly for 25 years before her retirement.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 22, at the Neece Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Conant officiating. Pallbearers were: Wayne Edwards, Albert Hunt, Pat Hunt, Murray Solomon, Charles Hunt and Rollie Farmer.

Burial was in Waverly East Cemetery.
