A funeral for Noble L. "Tobey" Oberg of McMinnville will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville. Dr. Douglas Adams and the Rev. Dennis Marttala of Trinity Lutheran Church, McMinnville, will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.
The funeral home will be open for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today and Friday.
Mr. Oberg died Jan. 26, 2003, in Tuality Community Hospital, Hillsboro, as the result of an automobile accident. He was 91.
He was born April 14, 1911, in Farnam, Neb., the son of Peter and Mary Peterson Oberg. He was raised and educated in Farnam. He moved in 1934 to Carlton, where he farmed with his brothers for many years.
He served in the Army 7th Division, 184th Infantry in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart in 1944.
He and Florence Baker were married May 6, 1976, in Carson City, Nev.
Mr. Oberg had lived in McMinnville since 1979. He belonged to the Farm Bureau, the American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, travel, bowling, music, flowers and gardening. He also liked spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joanne Loitz and Rosemary Watt, both of Portland, and Betty Jean Shrock of Wilsonville; a son, Ben Weisshaar of Reno, Nev.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles Oberg, Fred Oberg, John Oberg, Claude Oberg and Walter Oberg; five sisters, Esther Nordmo, Ruth Johnson, Emelia Oberg, Ann Oberg and Edna Duncan; and a granddaughter, Katina Weisshaar.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund in care of Macy & Son, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
