FORT DODGE - John W. Basgall Jr., 88, a former La Crosse resident, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Kansas Soldier's Home, Fort Dodge. He was born Feb. 21, 1915, in Loretto, to John E. and Katherine (Schoenfeld) Basgall.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He married Theresa A. Munsch on May 13, 1947, in La Crosse. He was a retired mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Gary, Hobbs, N.M., and Terrance, La Crosse; three sisters, Jo Ann Schuckman, La Crosse, Florence Koerner, Hays, and Frances Schuckman, Gorham; four grandchildren, Connie Sharp and Becky Rolan, both of Hobbs, Adam Basgall, Lubbock, Texas, and Nicholas Basgall, Vinita, Okla.; six great-grandchildren, Brittany Gandy, Justin Sharp, Zachary Sharp, Mathew Basgal, Emily Babcock and Brooke Rolan, all of Hobbs.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church; burial in La Crosse City Cemetery. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael Catholic Church or for Masses.
