Melvin L. Johnsrud, 66, of 1244 S. 31st St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday evening
at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Edmund E. Olson will officiate and burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Johnsrud was born April 8, 1908, at Manitowoc, son of the late Halvor and
Laura Johnson Johnsrud. He was graduated from McKinley School and served four
years with Company E of the 127th Infantry, National Guard. He married
Hildegarde Augustine in 1927 at Chicago. He was employed by Manitowoc Ship-
builidng Inc., and Mirro Aluminum Co., Manitowoc, prior to employment of eight
years at Manitowoc Health Care Center. He retired in 1971 due to ill health.
He was a 20-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 706, a member
of Manitowoc Senior Citizens and Manitowoc County Institutional Employes Union
Local 1288.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Grabowski, and two brothers,
Clarence and John, of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Rinehart Peppler, of Manitowoc
and Mrs. Esther Packard, of Glendale, Calif.; three grandchildren, (private), and
two great grandchildren (names omitted for privacy). Five brothers and a sister
preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday
until 11:30 a.m. Friday when the casket will be moved to the church where the
body will lie in state until the time of service. Eagles Aerie 706 memorial
service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be
made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
