ELLEN E. CANNON DIES, ONE OF M'SHANE FAMILY

Mrs. Ellen E. Cannon, 83, died at her home, 2206 Spencer street, Saturday afternoon from pneumonia.

She had been a resident of Omaha for 53 years, coming here in 1873 from Cedar Rapids, Ia., where she lived for a time after her marriage to Martin Cannon in Clark county, Ohio, in 1869.

Mrs. Cannon was a member of the McShane family prominent in the early development of Omaha, and was a niece of the late John A. and Edward Creighton. She was a sister of the late John A. and James H. McShane and of Catherine Furay. A brother, E. J. McShane, now lives in New York City.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. James C. Swift and Mrs. Margaret C. Reagan of Omaha, and Mrs. E. J. von Gillern of Nebraska City and two sons, Fred J. and Martin, jr., of Omaha. The husband died 20 years ago.

Funeral services will be held from the home at 8:45 Tuesday morning to Sacred Heart church at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre cemetery.

Mrs. Cannon was active in organization of Sacred Heart church a number of years ago.

Priest, in Sermon, Says Member of Old Family Was a "Doer of the Word."

Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen E. Cannon, 88, who died Saturday after a long illness, were held this morning at Sacred Heart church, following a short service at the residence, 2206 Spencer street. Burial was at Holy Sepulchre cemetery. A resident of Omaha for 53 years, Mrs. Cannon was a member of the McShane and Creighton families, prominent in early Omaha history.

"She was a doer of the Word, and not a hearer only. She was a friend of the orphan and the needy. She encouraged and aided the work in the parish, and was the animating spirit which made it possible for this parish to survive," said Rev. J. P. Judge, celebrant in the solemn requiem high mass. He was assisted by Rev. J. H. Ostdiek, deacon; Rev. J. F. Costello, sub-deacon, and Rev. G. A. Smiskol, master of ceremonies.

Pall bearers were Judge George Holmes, Dr. T. J. Dwyer, Dr. Edward Furay, Edward McShane, T. J. Fitzmorris, John Weir and Guy Furay.

Mrs. Cannon was a niece of the late Count Creighton. Of ten children she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J. C. Swift, Mrs. Margaret C. Regan and Mrs. E. J. Von Gillern of Nebraska City, and two sons, Martin and Fred. A brother, Philip McShane, resides in New York.
