Bertha was born in Travis County, Texas. She was an organist in St. John's Church and sang in the choir. She crocheted and always had a big vegetable garden, flower garden and an orchard. Her siblings were Mary Mueller, Emma Wiruscheske, Frank Jr., Alfred, Pauline Hamann, Otto, Caroline Anderson, Alma Hennig and Gus. Except for Bertha and Mary, all were born in Richland. Bertha was on the visitation committee in the Frauen Verein for many years and was a faithful member of St. John's Church.
Bertha married Willie Friedrich Herman Gebert. Their children were Herbert Gebert, Elnora Melber, Alvina Spaulding, Leroy Gebert, Waylon Gebert, Lorine Moore, Mildred Melber and Doris Smith. Alvina Spaulding, Leroy Gebert and Waylon Gebert are buried in the Richland Cemetery.
