David Valentine Acker died on Wednesday May 7th, 2014. He was born on November 6th, 1929 to Philip H. Acker and Gertrude A. Behrens in Nazareth, Texas. He married Mary Theresa Paschel in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Vega, Texas on May 5th, 1953. They made their home in Nazareth and farmed for 25 years. In 1969 David started a new career as claims adjuster for Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Company. In 1977 David, Mary and their two youngest children moved to Canyon, just South of Amarillo, Texas. David continued his work as a claims adjuster, retired from Germania in 1991 and took up catastrophe adjusting.

David was an active member in the Catholic Church and served as a lector and a minister of the Eucharist at both the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth and St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and served for 5 years as Chief Ranger in Nazareth and 16 years as Chief Ranger and Trustee on the Oklahoma-Texas State Court. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Ann's Church in Canyon and served as Grand Knight. David and Mary moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 2005 where he joined the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church and served as an usher.

David served in the United States Army during the Korean War and spent time in Trieste, Italy. He was a member of the VFW. He served on the Castro County Stock Show Committee in Dimmitt, Texas and was a 4-H leader in Nazareth for many years.

Mr. Acker was preceded in death by his parents, a foster daughter, Patricia Weatherford Fox; three brothers Herman Acker, Paul Acker, Anthony Acker; five sisters, Clara Kleman, Emma Kuper Moisier, Margaret Gallagher, Phyllis Podzemny, and Alice Acker.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Deborah (Rev. Robert) Jordan of Alpine, Texas, Agnes (Pete) Flores of Robstown, Texas, Elaine (Doug) Sanford of Irving Texas; three sons, Stephen (Beth) Acker of Naples, Idaho, Norman (Katelijne) Acker of Corpus Christi, Texas and Bernard (Joanna) Acker of Madison, Alabama, and a foster daughter Rosalie (Napo) Guzman of Quanah, Texas. Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-five great-grand- children, one great-great- granddaughter; one sister, Doris (Tom) Britten of Groom, Texas and one brother; Denis (Irene) Acker of Amarillo, Texas also survive him.
