Francis J. "Frank" Hoffman, 84, Hays, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Via Christi Village, Hays. He was born March 29, 1928, in Emmeram to Michael & Clara (Nemecheck) Dinkel Hoffman.
He married Mary Ann Geist on April 26, 1955, in Victoria. She preceded him in death Oct. 19, 2007.
He was a construction worker, heavy equipment operator and carpenter. He worked for Pierce-Schippers Construction, Windholz Construction and retired from Allied Asphalt in 1990. He owned Hoffman's Saw Sharpening in Victoria for more than 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Hays from Victoria in 2011. He was member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751, both of Victoria.
Survivors include two sons, Gary F. Hoffman and wife, Patti, and Ken W. Hoffman and companion, Christine Hays, all of Hays; three brothers, Mike Hoffman and wife, Dorothy, Garden City, Dan Hoffman, Hays, and Steve Hoffman, Gorham; four sisters, Aggie Geier, Garden City, Magdalena Dreiling, Denver, Rita Friess, Spearville, and Betty Flax, Dodge City; a sister-in-law, Judy Hoffman, Liebenthal; and a grandson, Aaron Hoffman, Hays.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Fred Dinkel, Joe Hoffman, Bob Hoffman, Tony Hoffman, and Victor Hoffman; three sisters, Clementine Dinkel, Mary Ann Hoffman and Helen Kreutzer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, with military honors by Victoria VFW Post No. 1751. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by Victoria VFW rosary at 7:30 pm, both at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Fidelis Catholic Church or Via Christi Village-Hays in care of the mortuary.
