Joseph Hoffman, 85, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at his home in Hays. He was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Emmeram, to Michael and Clara Nemecheck Hoffman. On May 5, 1947, he married Elsie Sander in Victoria. She died Aug. 20, 2007. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tony and Robert Hoffman; a half brother, Fred Dinkel; and three half sisters, Mary Hoffman, Helen Kreutzer and Clementine Dinkel. Mr. Hoffman was a fuel truck driver for Hartman Oil Co., Hays, for 30 years. He was a member of Hays American Legion, Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church at Hays, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include four sons, Ron and Floyd Hoffman, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bob Hoffman of Larkspur, Colo., and Joseph Hoffman Jr. of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a daughter, LeAnne Kroeger of Hays; four brothers, Victor and Frank Hoffman, both of Victoria, Daniel Hoffman of Hays, and Steve Hoffman of Gorham; four sisters, Aggie Geier of Garden City, Magdelena Dreiling of Denver, Rita Friess of Spearville, and Betty Flax of Dodge City; a half brother, Michael Hoffman of Garden City; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Vigil service was 7 p.m. Friday at Cline's Mortuary, Hays. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine in Hays. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
