Mathilda S. Johnson was born in Douglas County on May 7, 1885, the daughter of Andrew and Anna Bergsten. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Alexandria and Garfield area. She was united in marriage to Charles R. Johnson, former Garfield resident at Alexandria, Minnesota. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson made their home in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
Mrs. Johnson passed away at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home at Sauk Rapids, Minnesota on Saturday August 9, 1975 at the age of 90 years. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Hilda Christensen of Bremerton, Washington; also nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were Wednesday, August 13, 1975 at 1:30 p.m. at the Benson Funeral Chapel, St. Cloud, Minnesota. Rev. Jepson of the Salem Lutheran Church officiated. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church for 50 years. Interment at St. Lukes Cemetery, Garfield, Minnesota.
