Anna Johnson was born in Dalarna, Sweden, April 7th, 1848. She was united in marriage to Andrew Bergsten while still in Sweden and they came to America slightly after. They first settled at Osakis and there Mr. Bergsten followed the shoemaker trade. They later farmed near Nelson. They came to Alexandria and engaged in the shoe business for five years, after which they were in the general store business at Garfield for forty years. Mr. Bergsten passed away on March 10, 1917. Surviving her are the following children: Gust, Alma (Mrs. C. J. Johnson) and Alfred of Garfield; Mary (Mrs. Olsen) of Los Angeles; Tillie (Mrs. C. R. Johnson) of St. Cloud; Lydia (Mrs. A. Barrie) of St. Paul, Ida (Mrs. Knute Knutson) of Garfield and Hilda (Mrs. A. J. Christianson) of Walla Walla, Wash. One brother, Erick Johnson of Nelson also survives. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:15 at the Anderson Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock from the Garfield Lutheran church, Rev. O. O. Gustafso officiating. Interment was made in the Lake Ida cemetery.
