Mrs. Hamme was born in York, on April 7, 1926, daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Shriver) Spangler.
She was a graduate of York High and was employed by the West York Area School District as a cafeteria worker, retiring after 30 years of service. Stella was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ for 60 years, the election board for 40 years, West Manchester Twp. Bicentennial Committee, and the Arthur Murray Dance Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce E. Lobianco and her husband, Joseph of York; three sons, Charles E. Hamme of York, Carl E. Hamme of York, and Dennis P. Hamme and his wife, Louis of Spring Grove; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Delores Miller of Cumberland, MD. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy L. Bowersox and a son, Guy G. Hamme; five sisters and six brothers.
There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Shiloh Cemetery, York "on corner of Carlisle Rd. and Church Rd.". Officiating will be Pastor Elmer Scofield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Arrangements were entrusted to the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc. York (Shiloh), PA.
