BURTON EDWARDS IS BURIED HERE.
W. B. "Burton" Edwards, 81, of Lubbock 3217 32nd St., a pioneer settler of Lynn Co., passed away on Sunday, January 7, 1962 at 11 P.M. in Poplar Grove Convalescent Home following a long illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 9, at 2 P.M. in The First Baptist Church of Tahoka with Pastor James T. Efird officiating, assisted by Rev. George A. Dale of Lubbock and Wayland Edwards, pastor at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Burial was in the Tahoka Cemetery.
Mr. Edwards was born in 1880, July 19, and grew up in Crawford, Tx., near Waco. He was married to Belle Nunley in 1899. The couple came to Lynn Co. in 1906, buying a farm in the Three Lakes Community and lived there until 1924, then moved to Tahoka and then back to the farm. All of their children grew up there.
He moved to Lubbock in 1944. Two years later Mrs. Edwards passed away, Feb. 22, 1946.
In 1947 he married Mrs. Maudie Renfro of Lubbock. They lived for a time in Mineral Wells and in Stephenville before returning to Lubbock 2 1/2 years ago. He suffered a stroke and had been in poor health for the past 2 1/2 years.
Mr. Edwards was regarded as one of Lynn Co.'s outstanding citizens, served on the school board, was a deacon and loyal worker in the First Baptist Church in Tahoka.
Survivors include his wife, 3 sons, Carlice of Denver City, Boswell of New Home, and Wilson of Floydada; 4 daughters - Eunice Lewis of Tahoka, Velma Godwin, Lubbock, Lola Boles, Taos, N.M., Irma Faye Buck, Lubbock; four brothers - A. W., Waco, Tx, J. H. of Austin, Sumner of Long Beach, Ca., M. H. of Tahoka. One sister, Mrs. John Burleson of Lubbock, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of more distant relatives here and over the South Plains.
