On November 8, 1919 in Houghton, Michigan, he took 17 year old Annunziata Pacini as his bride. Witnesses for their wedding were Theresa Federighi-Thompson (Annunziata's cousin) and Donato 'Don' Cipriani (Joseph's brother).
They moved to Copper Harbor, Michigan where their first son, Vincent was born. They made several other moves during their time in Michigan for work.
About 1923, they moved to DeKalb, Illinois where working conditions were better and Joseph worked as a laborer for the American Steel & Wire Division of the U.S. Steel Corporation. While living in DeKalb, 3 more daughters were born.
Joseph later moved the family to 937 Moen Avenue, Rockdale, Illinois and he transferred to the steel mill in Joliet, Illinois where he worked until he retired December 31, 1962. He died of pneumonia one week later in St. Joseph's Hospital (the located on North Broadway) in Joliet, Illinois.
He was survived by his wife, Annunziata (nee Pacini) Cipriani four daughters, Gilda (James) White, Tosca (Frank) Furlane, Teresa (William) Kezerle and Rosalie Cipriani; one son, Vincent (Grace) Cipriani. Also surviving; a brother, Donato (Minnie) Cipriani and four sisters, Mary Cipriani, Livia (Madale) Gelli, Rose (Edward) Wagley,Fannie (William) Petrocchi, all of DeKalb, llinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Laura (DiGiulio) Cipriani, and one sister, Fannie Petrocchi.
Services were held from Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 251 N. Center Street on Wednesday, at 8:30 a.m. to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rockdale, Illinois at 9:00 a.m.
