Wenatchee--

Larry Loken passed away March 07, 2003 in Wenatchee, WA. He was born August 27, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN to Severin and Mary (Dahlseide) Loken.

He attended schools in Minnesota and Montana before making his home in the Wenatchee area in 1952.

In his youth, he worked in MT as a cowboy, ranching and harvesting wheat; proud to have earned a man's wages, although not yet a man himself.

He entered the US Navy and served tours aboard the USS Saratoga in the South Pacific during WW11. While on the Saratoga he survived a vicious attack which crippled the ship, claiming well over 300 causalities.

After leaving the service, he married Leona Drader, later making their home in Monitor, where their daughter Linda was born.

While working in the construction industry he met and married his second wife, Vivian Patrick of Monitor and together had 3 daughters: Bonnie, Connie and Susan.

An accident in the construction industry forced him to seek other employment. He found work bartending for Stillman Miller, the Orondo Tavern and later retired from Peppy Service Tavern with over 30 years as a union bartender.

He was married to Carol Corrigan, also of Monitor on February 03, 1973. During their retirement together they enjoyed fishing and spending time with their children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He loved to sing, especially Norwegian folklore and old ballads, many of which he had learned from his mother. He had a beautiful voice and as a youth had entertained classmates and later his own children, family and friends. As children he would begin our days with his pleasant voice singing us awake.

He also loved gardening, producing bountiful and beautiful vegetables out of his very large gardens.

He would always look forward to trips to MT where he had spent much of his youth. In his later years he enjoyed drinking coffee and socializing with friends at local establishments.

Larry believed that you should be a person of your word and be willing to help those in need. He was always honest and hardworking and instilled those same values in his daughters.

A son of Norway, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother and three sisters. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.

At his request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
