Bertha Anderson, daughter of George and Ella (Skinner) Coon, was born at Correctionville on September 21, 1883, and passed away November 11, 1981, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home at Correctionville.
She had reached the age of 98 years, 1 month and 20 days. She was married to Claude Anderson at Ida Grove, February 25, 1903. They farmed in the Correctionville area until 1936 when they moved to town. He preceded her in death in 1943.
Bertha was a member of the Church of Christ. She entered the nursing home in February of 1974.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Merrill, and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by four sons: Orville of Richland, Washington; Clifford of Camden, Arkansas; and Donald and Lowell of Marine, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Maude Page of Sioux City, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, November 14, at 10 a.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville. Rev. Tom Steele conducted the services, with Dean Cockburn accompanying Mrs. Lee Smith who sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". Pallbearers were Roger Mead, Clair Hatfield, Duane Anderson, Moss Anderson, Leonard Beaver and Fred Briese, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Flemming had care of flowers.
Interment was in the Correctionville Cemetery under direction of Barker Funeral Home.
