Ruth L. Baxter, 84, of Road 500W died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

She and her husband owned and operated the former Fifth Street Sandwich Shop. She attended New Zion United Methodist Church and was a member of Good Time Square Dance Club, Columbus Saddle Club and Grandview Craft Club.

Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Rev. Daryl Gressel officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital.

Mrs. Baxter was born in Bowling Green Dec. 26, 1915, the daughter of William T. and Leona Harrison Duncan. She married Walter Baxter Dec. 24, 1938. He died Oct. 25, 1985.

Survivors include a son, Terry D. Baxter of Columbus; a brother, Thomas W. Duncan of Columbus; a sister, Peg Lego of Columbus; grandchildren, Joe-D and Donald Baxter, Nancy Swift and Jill Garrison; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons, Richard and Danny Leon Baxter; a daughter, Mary Ellen Baxter; a sister, Mary Sewell; and a great-granddaughter.
