GARDINER --- William J. Hickey, 70, of the Old Brunswick Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon at Kennebec Valley Medical Center, Gardiner Division.
He was born in Whitefield, July 13, 1910, the son of William J. and Margaret (McGrath) Hickey.
He was a retired upholsterer and refinisher at the VA Center, Togus. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gardiner.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Carroll) Hickey of Gardiner; one brother, Maurice Hickey of Cumberland Center, and also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gardiner.

Friends may call at the Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral prayers will be recited Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to the Maine Heart Association, 20 Winter St., Augusta.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Gardiner.
