He served for a number of years as a crew member of lightships off the coast of Massachusetts. During World War II, he served in the Coast Guard. Mr. Hickey was a member of Local 217, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union since 1947, and retired from Douglas Brothers Stainless Steel Fabricators in 1980.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Yarmouth for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Governor Kavanagh Council 1423 and the VFW Royal River Post 10529. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cribbage.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Frances (Kastanowski) Hickey of Cumberland; three daughters, Gertrude Hickey of Portland, Margaret Hickey of Westbrook, and Rose Hickey of Kingston, Mass.; a son and his wife, Patrick Hickey and Jean Adams of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Yarmouth. Burial will be later in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, North Whitefield.
