Sister Mary Raymond Smith, 102, an Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph, Maple Mount, died February 20, 2002, at Mount Saint Joseph Motherhouse. In the 85th year of her religious life, she entered the community in 1917. She was the oldest member of the Ursuline community. Born in Springfield, one of eight children of Joseph Matthew Smith and Anna Marie Logsdon Smith, she attended elementary school at St. Francis Xavier School, Raywick.
An elementary teacher for over 56 years, she ministered in Knottsville, Bardwell, Louisville, Waverly and Vine Grove, all in Kentucky, and in Nebraska City, Neb. She retired to the Ursuline Motherhouse in 1975. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
Services were held February 23 at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, Maple Mount, with burial in the convent cemetery. Glenn Funeral Home, Owensboro was in charge of arrangements.
