CLAUDE METCALF
OLD FORT - Claude Metcalf, 76, of Route 1, died Monday.
A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Florence Robinson Metcalf. He retired in 1977 as a lab technician at Old Fort Finishing Plant, after 32years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife, Mafra Fender Metcalf; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Gerald Sluder of Fletcher; two brothers, Fred Metcalf of Shelby and Ernest Metcalf of Old Fort; two sisters, Edna Teague of Mars Hill and Jessie Fender of Marshall; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Old Fort First Baptist Church. The Rev. Randy Melton will officiate. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Westmoreland-Clapp Funeral Home, where the body will remain until 30 minutes before the services.
