WATERFORD - Albert E. Bourgeois, 91, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at his home. Born in Napierville, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Pierre and Alice Dufresne Bourgeois. He moved to Waterford on April 1, 1927 and was educated in Waterford schools.
Albert was employed at the former American Locomotive Co. (ALCO) in Schenectady and also served as manager of the VanSchaick Island Country Club from 1962 to 1978. He had also tended bar at the former Corkey's Tavern on Clifton St. and operated a barbershop on Grace St., having learned the trade as a young man. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a long time communicant of the former St. Anne's Church in Northside.
Albert was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Madeleine Berthiaume Bourgeois who died last year. He was the father of Rev. Donald E. Bourgeois of St. Ambrose Parish in Endicott, Lucille A. Ouimet of Valatie and the late Edward A. Bourgeois. He was brother of Berthe Coutu of Ballston Lake, Pauline Bourgeois of Cohoes, the late Harvey, Jeannette, Larry and Bernard Bourgeois, Aline Fleury, Marguerite Berthiaume and Claire Arneault. Also surviving are his grandchildren Matthew Bourgeois (Patricia), Anne Melly (Christopher), Marc Ouimet (Kristen), Melanie Moon-Wilary (John) and Michael Ouimet, his great-grandchildren Renee, Kristin and Jacqueline Bourgeois, Sophia, Collin and Justin Melly, Emily and Madeleine Ouimet, Lindsey, Gregory and Darren Moon and Liam Ouimet as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by his son. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 4-8 p.m. A heartfelt thank you to all health care providers, especially the staff at the VA Hospital and Hospice of St. Peter's as well as all home care providers, particularly his nephew Frank Galarneau. -
