Bert was a son of Paul and Ellen Davis Kishbaugh. On December 21, 1893, he married Clara Elizabeth DeHaven and the couple had eight children: Raymond, Emeline, Doretta, Alice, Victor, Ellen, Ida, and Richard. He worked for the American Car and Foundry Company in Berwick, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, as a tool repairer. He was a member of the Nescopeck Evangelical United Brethren Church, and Woodmen of the World. He and his wife operated a greenhouse in Nescopeck for 20 years.
