Clara was the oldest of nine children. She married Bert Kishbaugh on December 21, 1893, and the couple raised eight children: Raymond, Emeline, Doretta, Alice, Victor, Ellen, Ida, and Richard. She was a member of the Nescopeck Evangelical United Brethren Church. She and her husband operated a greenhouse in Nescopeck for 20 years.
