Rev. William Brooks 69, of 4 Trace Street, Mullens, died Sunday, March 5, 1995, in a Beckley Hospital, following a long illness.

Born May 5 1925, at Tipple (McGraws) he was the son of the late Pate and Gertie McGraw Brooks.

Rev. Brooks was an ordained Methodist minister serving the Itmann-Milam charge and was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran. He was past president of Mullens Lions Club, served on the Mullens City Council, Street Commissioner for the City of Mullens and was active in the PTA organization and served in various capacities of the Methodist Church, including Sunday School Teacher, Layleader, and Methodist Men.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marguerite Bodo Brooks on April 13 1983, and seven brothrs, Burton, French Homer, Ira, Raymond, Thomas, and Holroyd Brooks

Suvivors include his wife of 11 years, Marion Cox Lewis Brooks; two daughters, Cynthia Ratliff of Waldorf, Md. and Mrs. Gerald (Paula) Carter of Morgantown; a stepdaughter, Mrs Steve (Beverly) Smith of Beaver; two sons, Stephen Brooks and his wife, Kathy of Fairmont and Gary P Brooks and his wife, Anna of Hermitage, PA; a stepson Charles "Church" Lewis and his wife, Sharon of Beckley; Three brothers, Shelburn "Doc" Brooks of McGraws, Paul Brooks and Randolph Brooks, both of Beckley, and nine grandchildren.

Services were held at 2pm Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Mullens, with the Beckley District Superintendent, Rev. Nathaiel Turner-Lacy Officiating. Burrial followed in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley WV.

Friend served as pallbearers. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Varney Cline Post No. 133 of the American Legion.
