Born Dec 8., 1909 in Wyoming County he was the son of the late Peyton and Gertrude McGraw Brooks.
Mr. Brooks spent his childhood in Wyoming County, was a graduate of Milam High School at Ravencliff, was a veteran of WWII who served in the US Navy and attended Beckley College and Concord College.
He was a former school teacher in Wyoming and Raleigh counties who las taught at Lincoln School, Beckley, in the early 1960's and was formerly employed by the Raleigh Wyoming Mining Coal Company and was a salesman for Klaus Office Equipment, retiring from the May Office.
Mr. Brooks had been a resident of Northwestern Avenue since 1949, coming from Glen Rogers, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, South Heber Street and the Beckley Masonic Lodge No 95 AF and AM.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, French, Burton and Homer Brooks.
Suvivors include his Wife, Thelma Bonham Brooks; six brothers, Holroyd Brooks of Atlanta, Ga., Paul and Randolph Brooks, both of Beckley, Tom Brooks of Baltimore, Md., Shelburn Brooks of Saulsville and Rev. Bill Brooks of Mullens; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 pm Friday at Milton Mortuary Chapel, with Dr Raymond Rowe officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill Brooks. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley WV.
Friends may call from 6pm to 9pm at the funeral home.
Masonic buraial rites will be conducted by Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95AF nnd AM and will also serve as pallbearers.
